Girl-of-the-Week: Olivia Stearn

1st outfit: Top- thrifted, Collar-DIY (from her dad's shirt), Dress- Her own design
2nd outfit: Jacket-Vintage, Dress-thrifted ASOS, Boots- Vintage

I first met Olivia back when I was in high school: I was a counselor at an outdoor education program; She was the 6th grader crying and confused by hyperactive cliquey girls in our cabin. I didn't put two and two together when she arrived at my house a few months ago (referred by a friend) for our fashion show fitting-- the gawky middle-schooler had grown into a statuesque, self assured, fashion forward high-school senior.  When she's not putting in the long hours at cross country practice or studying, Olivia is kept busy heading her high school's fashion club, reading, and doing DIY projects that put others to shame! We want that embellished collar...

Name: Olivia Stearn
Age: 17
Hometown: Bethesda, MD
Hobbies: running, sewing

How would you describe your style and where do you get your inspiration from?
Definitely eclectic. I like to mix new and vintage, masculine and feminine. I am inspired by the blogs, books and magazines I read. I wish I could dress more like my sister who has always  worn whatever she wants without worry about what others think.

What item(s) are in heavy rotation in your closet right now?
My leather men's wingtips, a few printed maxi skirts, a stone-washed jean jacket.

How does your style change/ adapt (if at all) to a suburban school environment?
I feel like I cannot wear heels everyday to school like I would like to. I'm 5'10" and would tower over everyone!

Favorite shops/brands?
Dreams: Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Celine, All Staints, Givenchy, Barney's Co-op
Reality: Topshop, H&M, Anthropologie, thrift and consignment stores

Check out the glass head jars she picked up at an estate sale! Love.

Favorite DC spots?
U street, the Potomac river, the billy goat trail, Adams Morgan

On a typical day, your outfit consists of...
Cropped pants, loafers with socks, a sweater or t-shirt

Most excited to wear this fall:
Knit capes with riding pants and boots

What current trend could you live without?
Anything super embellished/ distressed a la Balmain
A wall-in-progress in her sister's room

In five years, in your ideal situation, you are:  living in a city I love with my own cat.
