Monkey See, Monkey Drink

The Marmoset gets corrupted by Carlis of Spicy Candy DC

Photos by Sebastian Marin (SMF0t0) and Marshall Johsnon (The President Wears Prada)

Here are a couple of quick snaps from our 1 year party last week--- we were so thankful for the love and support from our blogger community, models, and friends that showed up!  My inner 5 year old thought it would be fun to make masks for all the guests--- Ashley and I spent the night before cutting and pasting an endless stack onto popsicle sticks (it definitely felt like a kindergarten art project!)  Everyone was on their A game fashion wise-- for more great recaps of what people were wearing, check out TPWP, HighFash4Less, Because I'm Fabulous, Pich Roor, or Heart, Print, Style.  Thanks again for the support!

Also, Adam Mizrahi made this pretty sweet video recap asking guests the question-- "Why do you love vintage?"

The Doctor is In

Can't resist a good mint wall!

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Dress- La Petite Marmoset, Clutch- Violet Boutique, Belt- Vintage, Sunnies- Forever21, Boots- Doc Martens

Move aside 5 inch platforms-- these Doc Martens are officially my new favorite pair of shoes! I purchased them to use in our Valentine's day lookbook and planned on returning them right afterwards because they were a tad too big but... well, that just never happened did it? They instantly make you feel like an sexy urban grunge warrior and are wayyyy comfortable.  Decided to wear them with what Emily keeps calling the "Joseph Altazurra" dress--- all sleeves should be cut this way!

On Ashley: Dress- LPM Redesigned Vintage (here), Jacket- Forever21, Belt- Vintage, Scarf- street vendor, Shoes- BCBG, Clutch- boutique in Portland

Yay! Our first joint blog post! Ashley from La Belle Vie and I have been working together as creative directors of La Petite Marmoset for several months now--- it has been so much fun having another vintage obsessed blogger to bounce ideas off of--- doesn't hurt that she has had a pretty sweet online store herself!  This is what we wore to the Spicy Candy DC brunch on Sunday--- that slit dress is definitely one of our favorites in the shop. Scratch that, anything that shows a lot of leg is a favorite in the shop :)

Mrs. Peanut

How can you resist this...

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Blazer- La Petite Marmoset, Shirt- Vintage, Skinnies- Forever21, Pendant- Vintage (Thelma's Vanity), Pumps- Cooperative (via UO), Clutch- Violet Boutique

How sexy is this monocle? Okay, so it's not actually a monocle, it's more of a magnifying glass on a chain, but who would know the difference? Mark my words readers, in two months, monocles will be the latest craze--- glasses are just so last season.  Designers will send them down the runway in neon colors, spikes, studs, and feathers.  J Crew will make a classic preppy version for people just easing in to the trend. Forever21 will inevitably mass produce the monocle one season later, and then you will be sick of them.

Even if monocle mania doesn't ensue, they make for a good time at parties :)

In Defense of Mullets

Leather and leopard, a match made in heaven

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Top- thrifted, Faux leather skirt- Redesigned vintage (La Petite Marmoset), Ring and clutch- Vintage, Bracelet- Costa Rica, Necklace- Violet Boutique, Heels- Sam Edelman

I know what your thinking--- This skirt is kind of wrinkly. Nothing that a quick ironing from the inside out wont fix! (Thank goodness for pleather--I'll leave that to WebHauteJas who stopped by last week and purchased it from the store.)  I've been wearing the hi-low skirt A LOT recently for several reasons:

1) It's cool to rock a mullet (mini in the front, maxi in the back)---you can bend down to pick up your poor abused Iphone from the sidewalk without risk of mooning the old man behind you.

2) It makes you feel like a sexy flamenco dancer when you go out at night, even if all you do is stand still as you fling the skirt dramatically from side to side. Works like a charm.

3) It makes your legs look longer! Combine a hi-low with heels and BAM you're in gam-ville.

So there you go, what are you waiting for?  "Keep it on the hi-lowww"

"La Vie est Belle": Ashley Turchin + La Petite Marmoset

Photos of Ashley (who models her own pieces as well) from our most recent photoshoot-- she has her "blogger pose" down!

From Top: Top and belt- Ashley's own, Skirt- Reconstructed LPM (similar here), High Low Batik Dress- Reconstructed La Belle Vie for LPM (here), Yellow Blazer: Vintage LBV for LPM (here), Pink Blazer- Same, Red High-low hawaiian- Reconstructed LBV for LPM

I first met Ashley via Etsy message online--- she was happy to find another like-minded vintage enthusiast in the DC area!  Ashley is the owner/creative director behind La Belle Vie Vintage, an etsy shop that stocks romantic, ethereal vintage pieces. (Basically, the ying to our yang)  After meeting her in person at the Violet Boutique Holiday Party, we began bouncing ideas of of each other and decided to start collaborating. She had some pieces on her shop that she felt could use a reconstruction update----- we loved her looks in the LPM 3-way style challenge and were excited to have a fresh take on the shop.  Check out some of the looks from our most recent photo shoot above--- can't wait to work more with this chica!
