Security Jacket

Scarf- Thrifted, Blazer- H&M, Tank- 6th grade DIY, Harem capris- Tennis, Wedges- UrbanOG.com

My babysitter brought me this t-shirt back from Guatemala when I was 9 years old. It later fell victim to my middle school DIY spree. I didn't realize it then, but she would instill in me a love of huipils and tribal print that has continued to influence my style today.  I've held on to the colorful woven jacket she brought me from another trip that I wore for four years straight in elementary school, surviving tears, frays, and snowball fights.  My mom kept insisting I put on a new jacket, but I would always refuse-- there was something so special about the one I had.  Maybe it can be written off as childish stubbornness.  Maybe I was a dirty kid. But I think that's really what this blog and anyone who shares that love of vintage clothes is all about.  Just because something is the latest and greatest doesn't make it better-- keep the best of what's old and find a way to make it new everyday.

Guess I was feeing deep today! (Or maybe I just needed to remind myself not to buy new things for a while, wallet still hurts!) Headed to my first photography class (for real this time!), ciao!

  1. Your post today seriously hit my soft spot. Not only is my dad from Guatemala but seriously I went through a period of time where I wore the same fleece sweater for 3 years. Two years in a row I wore it on picture day. Haha. Loved your post today girl!!!
