Throwback Inspiration: Family Photo Album

Me at 3 years-- carrying a pinwheel while wearing red sunglasses
 always raises the intimidation factor.

Finally got around to scanning some old photos this afternoon-- most of them are of my mom/dad and random family members, some of who I can't identify.  I think my favorite in this set would have to be #2: My dad hitting on a girl in Japan--I basically want his entire outfit!

Don Draper de la Casa

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Dress- Made by my grandma from vintage drapes, Clutch and double hearts ring- Thrifted, Sandals- UrbanOG.com, Accessories- Forever 21, Sunglasses- Rayban

Every time I come home with a bag full of clothes after vintage hunting my grandma gives me a look like "Oh no...what crazy project is next?" (even though I think she secretly gets excited for it). Last week when I asked her to help me turn this pair of drapes into a maxi dress, she breathed a sigh of relief-- it was one of the simplest DIYs ever.  Take curtains, wrap around body, sew in a zipper and BAM!--new dress (hem as needed). Add window treatments to my list of secret sections to check out at the thrift store (As if I needed another reason to spend more time there...).

Globe Trotting

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Tunic- Vintage, Clutch and Shoes- Aldo, Sunnies and green cuff- Forever21, Eagle skull ring- Urban Outfitters, Beaded Cuff- Jamaica, Indian ring- Thrifted

I have no idea what part of the world this tunic originates from but I am in love! Found it in the international section of the thrift store--- there are always so many beautiful intricate beaded fabrics and colorful textiles that look like patterns straight from the runway.  Instead of spend hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on a piece from a "globally inspired" designer collection that goes straight to a corporation, I'd rather own the real thing (or support a project like this).

Okay, getting off the soapbox now. The weekend starts on Thursday in my book, hope you all have something fun planned :)

Haute Mess

All Photos by Sebastian Marin (think he might have a future in food photography)

From left to right:
Lida: Dress, belt and necklace- Forever21, Headband- LPM Vintage, Sandals- BCBG (Her own) ~ Jamie: Crochet Vest- Free People, Bow- Michael's Crafts, Wedges- Nine West (all her own) ~ Me: Kimono and lace onesie- Vintage, Shorts- Forever21, Gladiators- Steve Madden

Thrifted basket, blankets, and china

Yes, there are more pictures of food than clothes in this post. We had been planning to do a whimsical picnic for a while before settling on this past Saturday, which just happened to be one of the hottest, stickiest, mosquito-iest days of the year (I wanted to jump in the lake the whole time)--But you wouldn't know it from these pictures. After sweating about two buckets each (it was nice and detoxifying), we finally cooled down and were able to enjoy some girly bonding (aka stuffing our faces with caprese, fruit, and accidentally wine-soaked cookies). I would do it again in a heartbeat :)

Concrete Jungle

Dress and bag-Vintage, Boots and Necklace-Forever21, Belt- Fossil

Shot these with the amazing Elliott O'Donovan the other evening at an apartment rooftop on 15th St-- I normally hate looking directly at the camera without sunglasses but he made me feel really comfortable! The dress was a long vintage Jessica Mclintock with lace bib that I had shortened by my resident tailor (otherwise known as grandma--she's been in high demand recently). Four reasons I'm excited for this week:

1) Starting Insanity tomorrow.
2) Meeting with Art Institute of Washington about taking Fashion Retail classes.
3) DC Fashion and Beauty Blogger (DC FABB) meetup on Wednesday at Carbon.
4) La Petite Marmoset Vintage will be participating in Haute Friday's at Sweet Spot DC from 3:30-7:30 pm on the 19th!

Also, for those in the DC area, the LPM Vintage showroom (otherwise known as my home studio) will be open for shopping and custom fittings starting Tuesday! Email lapetitemarmoset@gmail.com for appointment and directions.

If You Can't Beat the Heat...

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Scarf and Clutch-Thrifted, Skirt- Alice + Olivia, Sunnies and cuffs- Forever21, Ring- Vintage, Earrings- Laila Rowe, Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell

... then get out your favorite scarf and turn it into a top!  It has been Hades' armpit weather in the DC area over the past couple of days, making it "sooo hard to dress cute" as one girl on the metro told me last night (Loved this article in the Post about men in suits braving 100 degree weather).  This Alice + Olivia skirt doubles as a top (mentioned two posts ago) and is a perfect light silk--kind of feels like your wearing nothing at all! If only it were office appropriate...
