Shred it

Blouse-Vintage, Cut-offs- Thrifted/DIY, Cuff- H&M, Booties- Jeffrey Campbell

Sorry for a slow post week! I will get back to your comments today, this week was kind of crazy since I decided last minute to reserve a spot at a DC arts market after Jeannie (of CleanWired Jewelry)  told me about it!  Today is going to be marathon alteration day :)

I suddenly want to shred and destroy all jeans in sight!  Cutoffs are the original quick-and-easy DIY, but in case you're a little shy with the scissors, Haute Pursuit has a great video tutorial

New (and brightly colored) items just added! Go to www.lpmvintage.com

For those of you local to the DC area, La Petite Marmoset Vintage will be at the Yards Park for Marcatus tomorrow from 11am-6pm!

The World is Flat

Scarf and Dress- Vintage, Ring- Forever21, Crochet fingerless gloves- Yaso knitting, necklace- UO, Flatforms- Cooperative (via UO)

My Cooperative "flatforms" finally arrived after being on backorder for what seemed like ages!  I'll admit, I was a little ambivalent about getting them at first because they were so different from what I'm used to (big bad amazonian stomping heels), but I realized I needed to break out of my shoe comfort zone. Plus these can actually be worn to class (Side note: Saw this girl strutting to class in a pair of Litas today and pulled her aside to give her props.  Our campus is huuuuge and extremely hilly! Not for the faint of foot).

This dress originally had a black lining (some cheap shiny material) which I cut out completely--- I've been doing this a lot recently.  I love the more delicate look of a sheer dress, plus it allows for a little extra breeze on those hot days!

Easter Spirit

What I wore to a wedding on Saturday. Inspired by Peeps?

Blouse and Shorts- thrifted pajamas (from two different sets), Belt- Dad's, Platforms and Clutch- Aldo, Cuff- H&M, Dress- Thrifted

Hey everyone! Hope you had a lovely holiday weekend! I'll be honest, I didn't really know what Easter was all about until, oh, 9th grade (I know, a tad late!--we weren't religious growing up.). All I knew was that I would get Hershey's eggs and chocolate bunnies in a bright colorful basket every year and that was fine with me! In my mind this basically equates Easter with Valentine's.  It's also an excuse to dress in brights and pastels!

Found these pieces the other day while thrifting-- many of the florals in stores this season are basically pajama bottoms masquerading as high waisted shorts.  These ones are better quality and way more comfortable (and aren't made of that cheap synthetic shiny sleepwear fabric)--who says it's a faux pas to go class in your pj's?

I leave you with some of my favorite pictures from The Washington Post's peeps diorama contest :) For the rest go here!

I still haven't played this game!

Show a Little Leg

Blogger meetup at One Lounge! Julia (Shop Janka), Allie (Wardrobe Oxygen), and Sam.
Sara (highfashion4less) and Rosa (Rosa Loves DC). Had so much fun chatting with these lovely ladies!
I split a deliciously messy pizza with Chloe Thompson, Assistant Editor of Washington Flyer Magazine
Finally got a chance to meet Oby (Heart, Print, and Style) in person-- we've been following eachother for a while now!--Amanda (miskabelle vintage), and Moni (Frock Yeah <-- Love the name of her blog)
Amanda and I modeling our bright vintage dresses-- as soon as she walked in I knew it was fate! She has a great Etsy store as well-- check it out here.

Dress- Vintage, Necklace- Charlotte Russe, Belt- Forever21, Platforms- Jessica Simpson

I thought about shortening this dress but decided I liked the dramatic look of undoing a couple of buttons in the front (makes me wish I could dance flamenco!).  Note to self-- never wear long thigh slit dresses on a breezy day-- that gust of wind coming off of the Metro escalator made for a Marylin Monroe 7-Year Itch moment!

I entered my quickie DIY dress from a couple of days ago in the DC Goodwill Fashionista contest. Winner gets a $50 gift certificate (and we all know that $50 goes a looong way at Goodwill!)  Vote for me by clicking here and "liking" the photo :)

Have a lovely holiday weekend!

Now Just Imagine Everyone in their Underwear...

One piece- Vintage, Hat and shorts and chain- Forever 21, Sandals- Topshop

...oh wait, I'm actually in my underwear! This frill-tastic vintage one-piece looks like the love child of an apron/lingerie/grandma's window treatment.  Naturally, I had to have it.  This is what I would have worn to Coachella, had I been a lucky attendee!

The only challenge? How to wear it (and still be able to go out in public)! Under shorts, the one-piece bunched up.  Worn loosely as a shirt (with the crotch snaps undone) it just looked weird.  Worn around the shorts, it felt jusst right. Or maybe it still looks weird.  Either way, I love it!

Snip Snip! Part 2

In bad need of a hair cut!

Dress- Thrifted/DIY, Hat, belt, and shoes- Forever21, Cuff- Velvet Lounge

A couple of weeks ago I did a post on how to update a shirt with a few quick cuts. Well guys, scissorhands has struck again! This time I unleashed the fury on a thrifted maxi dress-- I thought the print was lovely, and it would have looked fine normally, but I wanted to give it a little something extra. Plus, I've been seeing a lot of these short front/long back dresses and didn't feel the need to spend $80+ on what is essentially less fabric!

Again, this is a simple 30 second DIY: Try the dress on first and make a mark in the front where you want the short hem to end (always estimate longer-- somehow my dresses end up too short!).  Cut from the bottom front side of the original maxi hem from the right and from the left, tapering the cut to the mark you made.  In the back, continue the tapered cut but towards the low hem. I will probably finish the edges on the sewing machine eventually, but you can just leave them cut like that if you're in a hurry!

There you go! Snip away. If you try this, I would love to see how it goes!

By the way, I had the honor of being featured on Baker's Shoeternity as blogger of the week! A big thank you to those of you who have been reading, commenting, or just stopping by La Petite Marmoset to check things out!  You make my day :)
