In bad need of a hair cut!
Dress- Thrifted/DIY, Hat, belt, and shoes- Forever21, Cuff- Velvet Lounge
A couple of weeks ago I did a post on how to update a shirt with a few quick cuts. Well guys, scissorhands has struck again! This time I unleashed the fury on a thrifted maxi dress-- I thought the print was lovely, and it would have looked fine normally, but I wanted to give it a little something extra. Plus, I've been seeing a lot of these short front/long back dresses and didn't feel the need to spend $80+ on what is essentially less fabric!
Again, this is a simple 30 second DIY: Try the dress on first and make a mark in the front where you want the short hem to end (always estimate longer-- somehow my dresses end up too short!). Cut from the bottom front side of the original maxi hem from the right and from the left, tapering the cut to the mark you made. In the back, continue the tapered cut but towards the low hem. I will probably finish the edges on the sewing machine eventually, but you can just leave them cut like that if you're in a hurry!
There you go! Snip away. If you try this, I would love to see how it goes!
By the way, I had the honor of being featured on Baker's Shoeternity as blogger of the week! A big thank you to those of you who have been reading, commenting, or just stopping by La Petite Marmoset to check things out! You make my day :)
wonderful outfit, I love your belt! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI am so obsessed with this dress! I cannot believe that you edited it like that it is absolutely amazing! I have so many long dresses that would have looked so much better like that. I think you've inspired another scissor hands! Yikes.

I love your creativity! Good thinking. I also really love what you did to the dress! I love the styling as well because sometimes you can create something amazing and have it look terrible due to not styling it correctly. SO...great job and I love this little segment of your blog.
