In Living Color

All Photos by Sebastian Marin

Dress- Thrifted nightgown, Gladiators-Steve Madden (via DSW), Floral headband- DIY, Cross Necklace- Forever21, Heart mood ring- Thrifted, Ram's head ring- My dad's, Chain Bracelet- Dearbearcat (via Etsy), Flower Bracelet- gifted

This night gown was completely sheer when I bought it, but two triangles of  skin-colored fabric sewn in the chest area + one black slip later and voila! Okay for the general public! Aside from frolicking around Free People-style in fields, I spent last weekend helping a friend move into her new fabulous DC apartment (she kept calling me "Mega Mover" because of "unnatural female strength", not sure how to feel about that! Maybe I can start another version of College Hunks Hauling Junk? Babes Moving Boxes? These are the kinds of things that occupy my thoughts...)

It was our first time shooting in black and white-- what do you think?

"Please clear the sidewalk-- I mean runway!"

Some of my favorite photos from the show! Each girl wore two looks for a total of 16. I'm in love with dress #5 in this post-- it was originally just a straight hem below the knee but we altered it to be high/low.  The show literally took place on a big open sidewalk at the outdoor market ( a couple of confused elderly Nationals fans wandered into the "runway" and almost ran into one of the girls!).   After the first couple of looks people figured it out and those who hadn't already sat down to watch.

All the models, makeup/hair artists and photographers did a great job-- thanks guys!

Alice, meet Olivia

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Top- Alice+Olivia, Shorts- Forever21, Chain Bracelet- Dearbearcat (via etsy), Cross necklace- Thrifted, Bag- Style & Co, Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell

In addition to my yard sale/outlet shopping excursions at the beach two weekends ago, I also made a stop at my weakness, South Moon Under. For those not from the DC metro area, South Moon Under regularly carries blogger favorites like BB Dakota, Free People, MinkPink, and Dolce Vita (not to mention loads of fabulous swimwear)--basically the perfect storm of summer clothing. The only reason I justified entering was because I had been given a $25 gift certificate... which definitely didn't help keep me within a $25 limit. I ended up purchasing two Alice + Olivia tops (to be fair, one doubled as a skirt, so that's a two for one deal). Ahh! Must... stay... away!

Make it Work!

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Skirt- Vintage, Bandeau- South Moon Under, Wedges- Nine West Outlet, Purse- Thrifted, Belt- My brother's, Necklace- Charlotte Russe, Bracelet- made by a friend, Ring- Ireland, Glasses- Forever21

It's nice to put away the amazonian stomping heels and wear an ultra-feminine twirling skirt every once in a while-- the only thing missing is a little toy poodle to walk around with! Ran errands/went vintage hunting in this outfit over the weekend (I think the guys in Home Depot were somewhat amused).  I'm currently indulging in an obsession with old Dooney and Bourke handbags-- the leather is of extremely good quality and has that nice buttery texture! (Not sure who decided "buttery" was a good adjective to describe leather but it has me thinking about pancakes... totally random)

Yesterday's fashion show was a lesson in improvisation--- two of the eight models called out at the beginning of the day (eek!) and we ended up recruiting a random girl from the outdoor market where it was taking place as well as another female photographer who came to snap pictures of the show (I felt like we were on 15 Minute Makeover). I didn't realize how stressed out I was until another vendor came up and told me I was burning a fault line in the ground pacing up and down the sidewalk. In the end, all the girls looked lovely and did a great job! Thank you to those who supported in any way :)

Americana

T-shirt- Men's Jockey Undershirt, Shorts- Forever21, Belt- Vintage, Necklace, Mood Ring, and Soccer Bracelet- Thrifted, Clutch- Obey(via Velvet Lounge),  Wedges- Nine West Outlet

Found this beat up old American flag lurking in the corner of my garage (i'm pretty sure it belonged to whoever used to own our house) and thought it would be perfect to shoot with! It wedged under a heavy table chain saw which I was almost too scared to move for fear that it would mysteriously turn on at any moment (I could see the headlines: "Independence Day Dismembering"!). Okay, so maybe it was unplugged and has been for the past 3 months.  I still felt pretty brave.

I've decided I just have some strange attraction to dirty old things. Take that as you will.  I think I'm going to try to turn this into a pair of shorts!

Added some brand spanking new vintage (oxymoron?) to the store, check it out here!

Consumer Psychology

Photos by Sebastian Marin

Top, Shorts and Clutch- Vintage, Necklace-Thrifted, Bracelet and Belt- Forever21, Gladiators- Steve Madden (via DSW)

Made a quick trip to Rehoboth this weekend (lesson learned: Never go to the beach 4th of July weekend without having a house/parking permit!) The only thing that made battling a long snaking line of traffic worth it was all the "shopping"-- smart locals realize that this is the perfect time to have massive yard sales.  I kept resisting the urge to pull over, ignoring the beautiful hanging clothes calling to me in my peripheral vision, but couldn't take it anymore! Snagged these raspberry high-waisted shorts, embroidered blouse, and a hand painted clutch that has different designs on each side-- how pretty is the sunset by the way?

Rummaging through old racks of clothes beats beach outlet shopping any day! (Not that I didn't visit a couple of outlets though...)

Ferngully

All photos by Sebastian Marin

Caftan- Vintage, Dress-Rave, Shoes-Jeffrey Campbell, Necklace-made by my aunt, Jewelry-Thrifted/gifted

This caftan/shawl/long sheer thing reminds me of the 90's kid's cartoon film Ferngully (which I found in the bargain DVD bin a couple of months ago, along with Hook!).  It's always interesting to go back and pick up on all the subliminal messages that went right over your head as a child, or in this case, realize that the creators of the movie were probably tree-hugging, free-loving hippies. (Also, Avatar inspiration-much?)

P.S. La Petite Marmoset's first fashion show is next Sunday, July 10th at the DC Yards Park!
