Just got back from a long weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska (woohoo!) for a wedding--- all cow jokes aside, it was actually a pretty awesome city. For example, the rehearsal dinner took place in a  restaurant that was semi-hidden in the back of a Latino supermarket--- hands down some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! Lincoln is also home to the International Quilt Study Center & Museum--- so next time you have a big quilt test coming up, you know where to go :)

Congrats to Natalie of Fashionably Broke for winning the Flawless Face Workshop giveaway! For those who still want to sign up (workshop is coming up this Saturday!) there are a few spots left here.

Skirt or Really Stylish Apron?

My rooftop neighbor just planted some new cherry blossoms--- don't mind if I do :)

Blouse- Violet Boutique, Collar tips, Pencil Skirt, Bag, and Scarf- Vintage (La Petite Marmoset (tips-here- skirt -here-) Sunnies, cuff, and ring- Forever21, Shoes- Michael Kors

A lesson from the school of quick and dirty-- here's how to create the illusion of a scarf print skirt for free (or as close to free as possible)

1. Take scarf you already own
2. Tuck into skirt you already own (safety pin helps)
3. Wonder why you ever spent countless lunch breaks agonizing over whether you should purchase the SS 12' imitation prints on ASOS, Topshop and Zara knowing that you would probably not wear them after this season. (This last one is really just for me...)

Yay!

GIVEAWAY TIME!

Do you ever wish you could apply the perfect cat eye liner, conceal dark circles or just look AH-mazing in photos in general?

We're giving away one free spot in makeup maven Ana Buitrago's "Flawless Face" Workshop on July 28th at the La Petite Marmoset showroom---- she held one last month and the response was so great that she decided to hold another! Expect an intimate gathering of bloggers and DC ladies and mad ninja makeup skillz--- here's what's on the agenda:

- Prepping skin for makeup
- Perfecting skin with foundation and concealer
- Perfecting brows
- Proper use of makeup brushes and sponges
- Proper application of powder, bronzer and blush
- A day-to-evening eye look using eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara
- Proper application of lipliner, lipstick and gloss
- Product and technique recommendations based on your specific skin type and facial features

I used to apply foundation with my finger. *gasp!* It was not a pretty sight. *cue violins* But Ana taught me how to do everything the proper way without looking like a lady of the night.

Here's how to enter for a free spot in the Flawless Face Workshop (Value of $85.00)

1. "Like" Makeup By Ana Buitrago on Facebook (here)
2. "Like" La Petite Marmoset (here)
3. Leave a comment with your email address on this post (that's so we can contact you if you win!).

Good luck! You have until Thursday, July 19 at midnight :)

Do the Angie-Leg

Blackandyellowblackandyellow

Kaftan and belt - Vintage (La Petite Marmoset), T-strap Sandals- UrbanOg.com, Mochila- Colombia (here)

Thought about wearing this kaftan the usual way unbuttoned over a tank and cutoffs but decided an awkwardly hanging high-slit dress was in order.  This then led me to look up the lyrics to "Stanky-Leg" in attempts to come up with some more cheesy Angelina Jolie puns---- I would have succeeded if it weren't for the fact that the G-Spot Boys' (yes, that's the name of the fine young gentlemen who sang it) lyrics were just so...so... good the way they were ;)

Totally bringing this dance back tonight!

Rosa Mexicana

These shoes are almost as comfortable as the ones on the wall :)

Photos by Charlyndria Horton

Dress and clutch- Vintage (La Petite Marmoset -here- and -here-), Red beaded bracelet- Gift from Peru, Starfish ring- jewelry party (similar here), Blue beaded cuff- Forever21 (similar here), shoes- Calvin Klein

Hope everyone had a happy 4th of July! We spent the day at a river house in Annapolis floating around on foam noodles and attempting to drink at the same time--- there was one drowning casualty (RIP bf's hd camera -- one day thousands of years from now archaeologists will uncover it as a fossil and see videos of primitive humans attempting to play river raft beer pong-- they will conclude that this was, in fact, a backward sub-species.)

I imagine that this was originally intended as a maternity dress--- yesterday, it served its purpose to disguise my food baby :)

See Thru Sole

neon + clear plastic + 90s mini back pack = beautifully tacky :)

Photos by Charlyndria Horton

Peplum Dress- Redesigned from a vintage 80s (La Petite Marmoset), Bag- Vintage, Sunnies- Forever21, Spiked Cuff- She's Unique, Starfish ring- Purchased whilst drunk at a jewelry party (no recollection of brand), Pumps- UrbanOg.com

I know it's hard to tell from these pictures but the piping on this dress is a metallic gold! It originally had big poofy sleeves and was considerably longer---I'm all for a little poof, but this was too much!  The temperature has been averaging 90-100+ degrees in DC, so lopping off sleeves/hems seems a reasonable course of action.

I will say no more about these shoes except... they come in 8 more colors and I am fighting an intense inner (losing) battle not to get more! The $29 price tag is making this difficult...
