Let Them Wear Cake!

I love mixing the colors cream and light blue, partially because it reminds me of the birthday cake we get each year-- devil's food cake with real whipped cream and blue flowers! (mm-mmmm!) It's also a cleaner option than literally wearing cake, as my numerous childhood photos document. (The bf would argue that not much has changed!)

To the right, you'll notice I just put up a banner for the ebay link (it's not officially a store yet, I have to sell stuff first!).  I know it doesn't look super exciting right now, but we all have to start somewhere! Later I want to just make it a stand alone website.  It's been a trial and error process so far-- any tips are welcome :)

Afternoon Delight

Can't wait to wear this thrifted slip as a sundress in a few months! These tights are my alternative to thigh-high stockings/socks that fit too tightly at the top and make indents in skin (for those of us who have more "athletic" legs. Always did love that euphemism!).  

Currently ensconced in a Cosi easy chair catching up on email/blog posts/store/mooching off free wi-fi in general (and thinking about a second cup of hot chocolate). Can't think of a better way to spend a snowy Saturday :)

Decided to take photos inside today instead of brave the elements-- every hour or so a huge chunk of icy snow will fall off some trees in front of my house and land on my roommate's car, setting off the alarm.  Also saw some students today barely miss getting hit by a giant slab sliding off a roof.  (Final destination anyone?) Call me a grandma all you want, but I'm staying in!

Maybe if I dress like it's spring, it will come sooner. Until then I'm going to drool over pictures of all the bright colorful ready-to-wear collections (like these beautiful Prada shoes!).

Taking a self-timed tripod photo while a wintry mix is coming down was more challenging than I anticipated (note the water droplets) but in the end I liked the foggy-looking result.  Everyday without fail, someone will creep by slowly, roll down their window, and lean out their car to question/comment on what I'm doing taking photos of myself.  Yesterday it was, "Girl, are you makin' a video? Can I be in it too?"  Soon after a guy in another car passed by, honked, and yelled "Good MORNING beautiful!" in Spanish. Ahhh, a day in the life of a blogger.  Next time I'm going to an empty park.

I think I let out a little squeal of joy when I received this headpiece in the mail. (for some reason it went to the old address again, making this my third visit to pick up a package. It's now a running joke with the guys that live there). It has the feel of a crusading knight princess (file under: good ideas for band names) and doubles as a necklace, which is how I'll justify its purchase to the bf.  Two pieces of jewelry for the price of one!  The budget minded consumer wouldn't dare pass up such a deal :)

Ever have on of those mornings where you wake up, look in your closet and go "AAAUUGHHH!" (Aside from finding a cockroach. Not that that's ever happened...)  Today was such a day!  As much as I love wearing ensembles with a nice pair of stockings and sky-high heels, every now and then I just feel the urge to reject all fussiness and get back to basics.  Nothing spells comfort like jeans, t-shirt and a worn-in jacket.

Why hello there! Long time no blog (I feel so guilty!).  I was buried under a mountain of winter econ classes/ being sick (running around with bare legs in winter weather finally caught up with me!)/ at an awards banquet in Atlanta for the bf's promotion. Lousy excuses you say? Perhaps. 

Just realized that this skirt is one of two pink items of clothing I own (the other is a scarf). This pink-o-phobia is probably left over from my grammar school tomboy phase (everyone had one of those...right?) when I wanted to wear nothing but oversized t-shirts and raggedy knee-length jean shorts.  It got to the point when my dad would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and my default response was "A gangster!"  My dad reassured me that yes, I could be anything I wanted to be, but "mob boss" wasn't included in acceptable career aspirations for a 4th grader. 

Still editing and uploading photos (Literally have been photoshopping in the library for the past 5 hours), hope to have the store up sometime this week!

Part Deux

I had accumulated way more pieces to photograph than I realized (Hmmm maybe that's why I didn't do so well my first two years of college...) so we had a second photo session today. Here's another sneak peak at the store :) Thanks again ladies!

RuPaul's "Supermodel" is stuck in my head ("Work it, cover girl!"). I don't think my dad quite understood what I meant when I asked if it was okay to borrow his room for a photo shoot--when he walked in this afternoon his jaw dropped.  It looked like a vintage clothes h-bomb went off in there!  Bf kindly stopped by to help clean up. I knew i had a lot of clothes but wow...

A special thanks to the lovely ladies who stopped by the shoot today! Had a lot of fun and can't wait till every thing is edited uploaded and ready to go.
