"Expecto Patronum!"

\

Since when is this a scene from the suburbs and not the pages of National Geographic?

Several months ago I did a different outfit post at Forest Glen--- it hasn't gotten any less creepy!  The weirdest part about these peeling old haunted buildings is that they're located directly next to newly restored $500K town homes, but there seems to be no action being taken to revamp them. Until then, they make for great shooting.

My freakout moment came when we saw these guys grazing by the Dutch windmill.  I never finished the Harry Potter series  (I know, I'm a bad person!) but I vaguely remember that his protection is a stag-- Is this correct?  Either way I've never seen male deer with antlers in person, let alone suburbia. We started walking towards them thinking that they were, you know, nice domesticated Bambi deer... until one of the stags abruptly looked up, stomped the ground, and gave us the "Don't **** with me" look. He snorted for added emphasis.  (Okay so maybe I'm describing the moments leading up to a bullfight, but that's how it felt!)  We got the message and backed away. I'm telling you, something's not quite right about this place!

Feeling Ballsy

There's some kind of weird skirt bulge going on here...

Doin' it Sisyphus style!

Somehow I failed to notice these ginormous ball sculptures parked right next to Van Ness metro station until this past Sunday while walking to brunch.  My inner 7th grader had endless inappropriate blog post title possibilities, but settled on "Ballsy" after Sebastian suggested it (shows how far we've really come!).  The security guard watching the "balls" asked if he could take cellphone pictures of my shoes--- his exact words were, "Those shoes is BAD!" Thanks! That made my day :)

Welcome to the Hotel Adams Morgan

Daaahling I'll meet you at the presidential suite.

All Photos by Sebastian Marin- Location scout: Lida Ramsey ;)

Jacket, blouse, necklace, and purse--Vintage, Belt- my brother's, Platforms- Jessica Simpson, Palazzo pants- Zara, Other accessories- Forever21

We stumbled upon the Omni Shoreham Hotel near Adams Morgan the other day--- it's been host to every inaugural ball since FDR and it's easy to see why-- massive chandeliers, sumptuous draperies, and a regal veranda (Lida and I decided we're going to get married here one day. Not to each other-- just that it would be a nice spot!).  Maybe I should apply to do their new ad campaign: "Come stay at the Omni Shoreham, and you too can strut around in Palazzo pants, faux fur and 5-inch platforms while feeling fancy!"

These pants are 98% perfect except that they have the tendency to get very wrinkled in the crotchular region after sitting down (not sure how to avoid this, any suggestions? Starch? Portable steamer? Buy higher quality pants?).

Shopping Under the Influence

Sometimes I forget that before the onslaught of Land's End magazines my mom had pretty amazing style.

Trench- Zara, Romper- Vintage, Clutch- Aldo, Flats- Deeny & Ozzy (via UO)

Hooray for flats! I've been slowly coming back to solid ground (pun intended) and mixing up my shoe wardrobe after a crippling NY experience--the Amazonian stomping heels need a rest sometimes!  I would normally be hesitant to purchase shoes with leg-shortening ankle straps (and flats period), but a couple of free drinks and encouraging words from a friend in Urban Outfitters at 10pm and they were mine...as well as a pizza cookbook in the shape of pizzas (I can't cook!).  The cashier was amused by our shopping style and called us "sassy ladies"--- hope that was a compliment!

DIY: Green Monster

Trying to look fashionably hot while eating is hard.

La Petite Marmoset goes Martha Stewart!  Prepare for your taste buds to be tantalized!

Ha. I kid. This is from a rainy day before I left for NY-- we couldn't take pictures outside and decided to document breakfast instead. This "Green Monster" omelette is the closest I come to any real cooking (I know, I'm never getting married).  I eat some form of it it everyday-- basically I just throw all the vegetables in my fridge (except beets, they don't cook well and end up making a Purple Monster) into a skillet with one whole egg and a couple of egg whites.

This time I'm using: spinach, mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, green pepper, and 5 scoops of avocado (I loovee avocado).

You'll know your veggie to egg ratio is correct if you look at your skillet and think "Man, that's a LOT of green!" You can always add in some pieces of turkey and parmesean cheese to mix things up--- I just eat the bulk of my vegetables in the morning because I know I won't otherwise.

Once the omelette is cooked, add some greens on the side and a handful of berries and voila! Breakfast is served :)
